Pocketful of Peppermint

Pocketful of Peppermint
Designed by Belinda Karls-Nace
of Blue Ribbon Designs

Pocketful of Peppermint is a bright and cheery holiday sampler; designed to stitch as a whole or to take sections for  Christmas ornaments and/or needlework smalls. In this sampler, you will find all sorts of favorite holiday motifs, perfect for stitching new Christmas memories!

The sampler is worked on 28-count Country French linen (Cafe Mocha) with Weeks Dye Works cotton floss and one color of Kreinik braid for a little "snowflake sparkle". Weeks Dye Works colors include: Curry, Garnet, Hazelnut, Holly, Hunter, Liberty, Mascara, Snowflake.

Stitches include: Cross Stitch (over 2 linen threads), Back Stitch, Lazy Daisy Stitch, Diamond Straight Cross Stitch, Smyrna Cross Stitch, Rice Stitch, Satin Stitch (Flat Stitch), Fan Stitch, Long-Armed Cross Stitch, Plait Stitch, Montenegrin Cross Stitch, Four-Sided Stitch.  Design also contains several French or Colonial Knots and several Cross Stitches over 1 linen thread - use of these stitches is minimal.

The class will cover stitching the sampler, how to work each of the specialty stitches, three types of ornament finishing, adding beads when finishing an ornament, personalizing your ornaments, and making twisted cord.

Students should have previous experience working on linen or linen-like fabrics and should be comfortable working from basic stitching diagrams and cross stitch charts. Students will need their favorite stitching tools or basic sewing kit (sharp sewing scissors, ruler or tape measurer, writing utensil, extra needles, a hoop or Q-Snaps, etc.). If required, student will need to provide their own additional lighting or magnification (remember, if bringing "plug-ins", please bring an extension cord).
