Stitcher’s Hideaway Button Box Retreat We are so excited to have Dawn Fisher of Morning Glory Needlework return for a fourth time to Stitcher’s Hideaway! She will be teaching Grandma’s Button Box as a two-day class. Attendees will also have the option to purchase the matching companion piece to this project. Dawn’s classes are a true learning experience. Her oral and written instructions are fantastic and you will leave definitely knowing how to complete this beautiful project.

This design was inspired by Dawn’s childhood hours spent playing in her own grandma’s button box. She’s fondly remembers sorting and admiring the many different and unique buttons. The buttons on the above box are from her grandma’s button collection. The kit you receive will include vintage buttons plus you are encouraged to bring your own buttons to make your box more personal. The top of the box incorporates lots of stitches - Lazy Daisy, Rhodes, Detached Buttonhold, Eyelets, Canvas Lace, Buttonhole, Cross with bar, Chain and more. The fabric on top is a lovely yellow 28-count linen. The threads used are Sulky’s 12 Wt. Cotton Petites, which are fabulous to work with! The sides are wrapped in a 2 inch banding. Directions will include three alphabets for personalization including the flower alphabet used on the top of the box. The best part is that no construction is required! If you look closely, you will see the box itself is a Whitman’s Chocolate box. Students will provide their own box or the top design could be framed instead. This is your pre-work assignment - Eat chocolate! Save box! As an optional accessory, Dawn is offering the companion piece ‘My Needlework Necessities’ which is only available with the class project. Follow this link to read about Dawn’s accessory piece, available by separate order. What to Bring: You should bring the usual stitching supplies such as embroidery scissors, extra magnification and lighting, if needed. The linen size is 9 inches high by 13 inches wide. A stitching frame or Q-Snaps are strongly recommended for this piece. You are also welcome to bring your own buttons. A letter will be sent with the sizes and number of buttons needed. There is lighting in the classroom, but we recommend that you bring some additional task lighting, and magnification if desired.
