A Mystic Summer Retreat

Get ready for some summer fun!!  Amy Bruecken is headed our way from Ohio to spend two wonderful days with us as we work on her Seaside Sampler, Whale Tale Fob and Crab Needle Keep!  Much of Mystic, CT is right on the ocean and Amy’s projects for us reflect that. She was inspired by the Mystic Lighthouse and captured it beautifully in her design.  The sampler comes complete with a frame, which we will finish using chalk paint during class.  What a fun summer project!

We will be having an Optional Stitching Exchange with a summer theme at this retreat. Those who wish to participate must hand-stitch a finished object having something to do with summer.  It could be finished as a needlebook, ornament, pin cushion, fob, biscornu, framed piece, whatever! Bring your gift wrapped finished hand stitched object to the retreat and then participants will draw numbers and pick out a gift in numerical order.  It’s loads of fun!

We’ll also have a Show ‘n Tell time where we can show off our stitching or other crafts - get ready to be inspired!

Amy will bring her fantastic Trunk Show to the retreat and Stitchers Hideaway will have logowear, cool needlework tools, and our own designs for sale!

For those that can arrive the night before the retreat (Sunday, June 24th) we’ll be having a Dessert Buffet from 7:30-9:00 p.m. where you can meet Amy and your fellow stitchers in a very sweet setting!

We are planning an optional Lighthouse cruise along the Connecticut, Rhode Island and NY Islands’ coastlines, which will take place Wednesday, June 27th, the day after our retreat.  The cruise is approximately two hours on the Cross-Sound Ferry’s modern and comfortable Seajet ferry where an expert narrator will guide our journey as we view several area lighthouses, coastal historic homes and forts. Reservations will be made for the 10am Wednesday, June 27th, cruise for anyone who is interested in signing up.  The additional cost is $30 per adult and $15 for children ages 2-11, so your guests are welcome to join us on this amazing trip.  The cruise departs from nearby New London, CT where there is parking for a day rate of approx $10.

Please note on your registration if you would like to include the cruise or send an e-mail request to Stitchershideaway@outlook.com,  The deadline for reservations and payment through Stitcher’s Hideaway is June 15, 2018.  This is a publicly available cruise, so space is limited.

If you’ve never visited Mystic, you are in for a treat!   It’s a great place to visit and a great weather month to do it! Less than a mile away from the hotel is Olde Mystick Village with its 50+ unique shops. Right next to Olde Mystic Village is Mystic Aquarium, where you can have a close up view of a great variety of marine life -- imagine a beluga whale exhibit, African penguins, seals and sea lions!  Mystic Seaport is the largest maritime museum in New England.
